note: This application is uniform for all 4 Criteria's listed below.

CRITERIA
OF THE ANTONIO MEUCCI LODGE
SCHOLARSHIP
COMMITTEE
|
|
A.
Student Criteria |
|
1)
Applicants
must be of Italian Descent.
|
|
2)
Applicants must be a
High School graduating senior.
|
|
3)
Applicant must show proof that he or she
has been accepted to a college or a university on a full or part-time
basis.
|
|
4)
Applicant has studied the Italian Language
a minimum of 3 years.
|
|
5)
The Scholarships are awarded for academic
excellence and applicants must have a minimum average of 90% in general
and a 90% in the Italian Language.
|
|
6)
Applicants must provide at least two
letters of recommendations, one of which from their teacher of language /
counselor. These letters are
to be sent by the teachers directly to the Scholarship Chairperson by May
1st.
|
|
7)
Applicant must complete application form
and forward it to the Scholarship Committee Chairperson by May 1st.
|
|
8)
Applicant must request the high school to
forward an Official Transcript to the Scholarship Chairperson by May 1st.
|
|
B.
Committee Criteria
|
|
1)
No more than 4 scholarships per year shall be awarded.
|
|
2)
Scholarships shall be awarded as follows:
a)
One to a White Plains High School Student.
b)
b) One to a Neighboring High School.
c)
c) One to a Child or Grandchild of a member of the Antonio Meucci Lodge who studies Italian.
d)
d) A Child or Grandchild of a member of the Antonio
Meucci Lodge who attends a school district not
offering Italian MAY BE ELIGIBLE. Not
more than one Scholarship can be

3)
In the event that one of the above does not meet the stipulated
student criteria, the Scholarship will not be awarded for this year and
the money will remain in the scholarship fund.

4)
The committee shall consist of 5 members
including the chairperson. The
President of the Antonio Meucci Lodge shall appoint them.
|
|
5)
The term of the committee shall be two
years. In the event of a
vacancy, the President of the lodge will appoint a new member.
|
|
6)
All scholarship applications for
consideration must be submitted to the committee by May 1st.
|
|
7)
The Scholarship Committee shall submit
their recommendation for scholarship to the President of the lodge on or
before May 15th.
|
|
8)
The Scholarship Committee should attest to
the fact that each student has met the student criteria and sign his or
her name.
|
|
9)
To avoid a conflict or a perception of a
conflict of interest, no committee member should participate in the voting
selection of the candidate who is a member of his or her family.
|
|
10)
No
recipients can receive more than one of the lodge’s scholarships.
|
|
11)
For
the official voting of the scholarships, all five members must cast a
vote. For voting to be legal,
there must be a minimum of three votes for or against the decision. |
