The Antonio Meucci Lodge is committed to supporting students of the Italian language, especially those senior high school students pursuing college. The Lodge's current scholarship program consists of a Spring Competition and a Miss Columbus Day Competition. The Lodge also works with the NYS Grand Lodge Foundation to enable members to be eligible for the Foundation's scholarships.
The 2012 Spring Scholarship Competition deadline has passed.
Spring Competition
Each year, the Lodge offers several academic merit-based scholarships to awardees that best meet the below requirements:
General Eligibility: Applicant must be a son, daughter or a grandchild of an Antonio Meuci Lodge member in good standing. He or she must be a graduating high-school senior of Italian descent (at least one Italian or Italian American grandparent) who has studied the Italian language for a minimum of three years and who has been accepted to a college or university on a part-time or full-time basis. Proof of acceptance at the college/university must be shown.
Academic Requirements: Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 90% and a 90% GPA in the Italian language.
Application Form: Applicant must complete the application form and forward it to the Scholarship Committee Chairperson.
Letters of Recomendation: Two letters of recommendation, including one from the applicant's language teacher or counsellor, are required as part of the application. Letters should be sent directly to the Scholarship Committee Chairperson.
Transcript: The Applicant should request that their high school send an official transcript to the Scholarship Committee Chairperson.
Deadline: All required items are due to the Scholarship Committe Chairperson by May 1.
Process: The Scholarship Committee will screen all applications and accompanying materials and choose several candidates to be interviewed. Awardees will then be chosen and only these scholarship recipients will be notified. Monetary awards are sent directly to the recipient's academic institutions.
All scholarship winners will be invited to attend the May Lodge General Meeting where they will be recognized in a special ceremony that family and friends may attend.

Miss Columbus Day Competition
As part of the Lodge's Celebration of Columbus Day, the Lodge offers one scholarship to the applicant that best embodies the ideals of Miss Columbus and
who will represent the Lodge at the annual White Plains, NY Columbus Day Festival.
Through the generosity of the Generoso Pope Foundation in Tuckahoe, NY, our Lodge is able to award a $5,000 scholarship
to be used towards the Fall 2012 college tuition of the wining candidate.
Eligible applicants must be entering their senior year of high school this September and reside in White Plains.
They must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and be of at least 50% Italian descent. Priority will be given to students
of the Italian language and students who are children or grandchildren of an active member of the Antonio Meucci Lodge
for six months beginning January 1, 2011.
Applications will be screened and finalists will be interviewed in late August and early September.
The winner will be announced in late September.

Grand Lodge Scholarships
Please note that the deadline for the 2012 scholarships is March 31, 2012.
In conjunction with the NYS Grand Lodge Foundation, our Lodge also awards the B. Albert Roselli Scholarship,
and the Scholarship in Memory of Deceased Members. These two scholarships are awarded annually to children or grandchildren of active members of the Antonio Meucci Lodge # 213; please see the Foundation's
website for eligibility and other requirements.
In July 1871, Meucci was nearly killed in a ferryboat explosion, leaving him hospitalized for months. His wife Ester had little choice but to
sell his original phone models to a junk dealer to raise money for his medical expenses.
